decades. good morning. i'm kendis gibson. >> i'm reena ninan. here are some of the top headlines we're following this morning on "world news now." the republican presidential candidates debated for the last time before the primary season kicks off on monday with the iowa caucuses seven of the top candidates were there. but front-runner donald trump boycotted the event. full coverage on both sides of the race just ahead. the four remaining militia members at the oregon wildlife refuge say they'll leave but only if they're not arrested. the group's leader has urged everyone to go home and end the nearly month-long standoff. the zika virus is spreading explosively in the america wiz could see up to 4 million cases over the next year according to the world health organization. there are at least 31 cases so far here in the u.s. all people who came down with

iowa, sanders with four campaign events. hillary clinton with three, and bill clinton looking like a candidate himself with four events all over the state. and now in the final stretch, it all comes down to the ground game which is especially challenging for bernie sanders because he is relying on younger voters many of whom have never been to a caucus before. as for hillary clinton, she got beaten in the ground gape by barack obama eight years ago and that campaign is bound and determined that that will not happen again. jonathan karl, abc news, des moines. >> u.s. officials say that activity at a north korean missile testing facility could indicate the country is planning a potentially long-range missile test in the near future based on overhead satellite imagery of a satellite launching station on the western coast. north korea used it in december of 2012. >> iran is right now on a spending spree now thattings sanctions have been lifted. the iranian president was in paris yesterday for the signing

him just didn't work adding that much. kerry helped finalize the prisoner swap that freed rezaian and four other americans. >> very emotional day yesterday. a new stage until europe's refugee crisis. sweden says it may reject the asylum plikszs of up to 80,000 migrants and deport them, nearly half of all refugees who requested asylum last year there. sweden has been one of the most welcoming nations. this announcement reflects a difficult term in the continent's refugee crisis. here in the united states, a senate investigation found that the health and human services department failed to protect migrant children from human trafficking. the six-month study found that the government was overwhelmed by the tens of thousands of children crossing the southern border. still the findings angered senators from both parties. >> state workers in flint, michigan were given the choice to drinking from bottled water even as residents were being

fine according to some recently discovered e-mails. the switch at state office buildings was made in january of last year. it wasn't till the fall, 2015, that residents were told not to drink their water. and staying in michigan, the detroit teachers union is suing the school district tore what it calls deplorable conditions and demanding immediate funding to fix crumbling buildings, accusing the district of safety. the system has also been plagued by rolling teacher sickouts forcing dozens of schools to close on any given day. >> classes canceled at a texas middle school because of a suspected carbon monoxide leak from a faulty boiler. at least 145 people were made sick in the leak yesterday. ryan owens reports frrts beaumont. >> reporter: for more than 100 students and staff at this texas middle school, their school day ended at the hospital. being checked out for symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. >> they showed symptoms of nausea and headache, and some

and, of course, ems treated and took the appropriate medical action. >> reporter: some students left on stretchers. others loaded into buses to a local hospital. >> everyone didn't really know how to, like, react to it, because there has never happened before. >> reporter: the fire chief in the city of beaumont, east of houston, believes the toxic gas was leaking from a boiler at marshall middle school. the leak was first reported around 10:30 this morning, when one child fell unconscious. all students are expected to be okay, but authorities are vowing no one will be alloweded in that school until they know it's safe. the fire chief says there were no carbon monoxide detectors inside of that school. so, the first time of trouble was when kids started getting sick. ryan owens, abc news, dallas. well, a sinkhole has forced the closure of a main highway in southern oregon. the slide started on highway 101 around noon. after an overnight storm dumped

get out the vote in iowa. ines day lacroix tara explains. >> christian is getting out the vote but not just any vote. he is part of the league of united latin american pen citizens and from door knocking to mock caucus training, this year they're doing everything they can to get latinos to caucus. >> people understand the importance of voting but may not know how the to vote or know the caucus process. >> reporter: latinas make up just 6% of the total population here but he estimates that accounts for about 70,000 potential caucusgoers and that's a high number given that last cycle just 90,000 voter participated in the republican caucuses. >> we are unknown commodity here in iowa. >> reporter: it's a nonpartisan effort. he says their only goal is to get out the vote and make sure they understand how the caucus process works. many of the first time oop voters here don't have anyone in their families to show them the ropes.
